FAQ's

Question: What kind of programs I can apply for sponsorship?

Answer: There is no restriction on type of program type. You can apply for any post secondary program of degree, diploma or certificate. However seeking sponsorship for a program that is being offered by publicly funded post secondary institution is most likely to get approved by post secondary committee.

Question: How long it will take to receive a decision on my sponsorship application?

Answer: You should expect at least 4 – 6 months time period before you receive a decision from post secondary committee however if you submit your transcripts, research form and acceptance letter from the post secondary institution, processing time will be greatly reduced.

Question: Is there any deadline for placing application for sponsorship?

Answer: There is no deadline for application. Post secondary committee continues to receive application throughout the year however committee meets twice a year for making decision on sponsorship applications.

Question: Can I apply to an institution outside Canada ?

Answer: Yes, you can apply to an institution outside Canada and Clients enrolled in educational institutions outside of Canada who have been approved for sponsorship will be given the appropriate rates/currencies.

Question: What if I discontinue the program of study for which I was sponsored?

Answer: We encourage you to complete the program of study for which your application was approved however if you discontinue the program, you will not be sponsored again for any post secondary program. Preference will be given to candidates applying for first time.

Question: How will be my travel expenses covered if I must leave the community for training?

Answer: Assistance will be provided to clients who are required to live away from their normal place of residence

1. One-way transportation from home community to the institution at the beginning of the course.
2. One-way transportation from institution to home community when course is completed
3. Emergency travel will be provided for immediate family due to accident or bereavement

Question: How will be my childcare expenses calculated?

Answer: Childcare payments will be negotiated individually and if approved will be paid directly to the Service Provider.

Question: Am I entitled to relocation allowance?

Answer: Provided to clients who require the removal of household effects who will live in apartment/houses in their new location as opposed to living in residence. This is issued one time only, when the client leaves the community and when the course is completed and the client returns home to the community.

Question: What if I need a special equipment or instrument for training?

Answer: Is provided based on the need of the program and institution. This includes special clothing for work experience of Trades participants.

Question: How can I benefit from summer student employment program?

Answer: Human Resource Development Authority provides opportunities for High School, University, and Community College students to gain valuable experience. Opportunities include both career-related and non-career-related positions, ranging from maintenance and labour to administrative, information technology, engineering, marketing, accounting and many more.

If you are a student interested in being considered for employment with NCN, you must register with HRDA. Summer student program coordinator is responsible for student registration, referral and placement in all NCN organizations. If you are graduating you can register directly with employment councilor.
