Description:
|
The Nehetho Language & Cultural Coordinator will report directly to the Principal. The successful candidate for this position must have a strong working knowledge of the Nehetho language and cultural history and its importance to NCN. The successful candidate must also be able to speak and write the Nehetho language fluently, and also possess a strong working knowledge of Ethinesewin and the local history of NCN. The successful candidate must possess a demonstrated ability to analyze, understand and develop concepts and ideas, and expertise in the development and implementation of curriculum. The Nehetho Language & Cultural Coordinator will be expected to develop and maintain positive working relationships with the NHEA Board, and the various partners and stakeholders in NCN education and other outside entities that work with NCN. Job Requirements:
|
• Take leadership role in the development and implementation of curriculum for Nursery to Grade 12;
• Develop and implement plans to introduce Nehetho language and cultural practices into the school curriculum;
• Organize and promote Ne-he-tho (Cree) Language and cultural practices in individual and group sessions in the classroom and throughout the school and in the community in general;
• Assist in the planning and organizing of spiritual ceremonies as and when required;
• Develop and implement cross-cultural awareness training for all staff;
• Work effectively independently and as part of a team, cooperate with colleagues and other organizations in and outside the community;
• Demonstrate the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, maintain confidential information, and work under pressure;
• Represent NHEA Nehetho language and cultural philosophy to all outside agencies and communities;
• Utilize Nehetho ceremonial practices such as the sweat lodge, talking circle, drumm

Minimum Qualification:
|
• The successful candidate would ideally possess a Bachelor of Education degree, with some focus in aboriginal studies (or related fields of study)
• Speak and write the Cree language;
• A combination of education and experience will also be considered;
• The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
• Fluency in the Cree language is essential and Cree language and culture must be actively promoted in all cultural endeavors the Nehetho Lan
